Flora MacDonald spoke at an Amnesty event I organized. John Diefenbaker called her "the finest woman to ever walk the streets of Kingston". I suspect he meant that facetiously, but she is fine, and her early support for Amnesty International was hugely appreciated.

The wonderful Allen Leatherman, a true gentleman, now passed. Allen made an unforgettably continental Raymond Loewy, in the Pittsburgh production of 'Writing with our Feet'.

A Pair of Playwrights

Eric Coates, the hugely popular artistic director, with actress Marion Day outside 'The Boot', the village's second most popular institution, after the theatre. Eric is completing his last season in Blyth, and will shortly take over the reins of Ottawa's Great Canadian Theatre Company.

CBC's legendary radio production venue, Studio 212, is being demolished. On Wednesday, December 12, 2012, the studio was opened to staff and a few visitors, who were able to take one last look at where so much radio brilliance had been created. Paul Gorbould was on hand to take pictures of the studio's close, and assembled this bunch of staffers, all with Studio 212 stories to tell. The closing of Studio 212

When he is not parading around the white cliffs of Dover, Randy Read is artistic director of New Stages Peterborough, a theatre that produces Canadian and international plays. Randy recently took a well-deserved holiday and is clearly enjoying himself at Beachy Head. Apparently a remarkable number of people travel to Beachy Head for less happy reasons, and soon after this picture was taken Randy was approached by a special Chaplain who was worried he was pondering a leap. Randy wasn't, the Chaplain was relieved, and now our favourite cliff dweller is safely back in Canada.

Alas, I do not have the technical know-how to crop that strange, greasy man from the centre of the photo. Suffice to say, he is flanked by two wonderful women, both of whom are no longer with us, but both who have left enduring legacies. The event was the opening of 'A View From The Roof' at the Tarragon and the beauties are, of course, Gina Wilkinson and Helen Weinzweig.

Joe Fukutome left a perfectly good job to pursue his dream of acting, and he's making it work. I'm not sure what they've done to his nose (or hair) here - but it's a great look!

It was a more innocent time, when we could admire large things without a trace of irony. Glenda has gone on to great success in many fields, not the least of which is Editor of Scirocco's drama line.

Brooks was the author of the Freddy the Pig series, which sold over a million copies in the 40s and 50s, and remains in print today. Dorothy, now deceased, was Walter's wonderfully spirited widow and she was tickled pink that her husband's life work was being promoted by Friends of Freddy.

Esca Brooke-Daykin, the Canadian Rajah. His life began as the pampered child of Rajah Charles Brooke in Sarawak. But he was not destined to stay in that little piece of paradise, and was shipped off to England, and eventually the backwoods of Canada. His story of adaptation and survival is inspiring and is the subject of a new work in progress, "Canadian Rajah".
